Ski Holiday Italy - Alagna and the Valsesia
SEARCH & BOOK - Find your ski holidays here
Alagna is a great place for a ski holiday in Italy. This tiny little town of around 500 inhabitants is located on the slopes of the second highest mountain in Europe – Monte Rosa and is still relatively unknown by skiers and anybody else much for that matter. Definitely one of my recommended place – please visit search and book to

great Piedmont resorts
The area is slowly becoming more popular amongst Piedmont locals for its great skiing and hiking. White water rafters and climbers too have started to discover the area which is a true mecca for summer and winter sports lovers. With the Olympics having helped to give skiing in Piedmont a lift the resort of Alagna is developing fast. From the 2007 season Alagna will be home to the highest lift in Italy - 3700meters. The result is that Alagna offers perhaps the best off-piste powder skiing, on some of the longest routes, to be found anywhere in Europe. Over 2500m of piste at 45 degree angles means that intermediate and advanced off-piste skiers are in for a treat. The great thing about the development of the Alagna resort is that it has been done in such an environmentally friendly way that Alagna represents the next generation of ski resorts. If development continues as it has, Alagna will be a model that will set the standard for future resorts. Cross-country skiers are also well catered for and the Valsesia National Park, the highest National Park in Europe, offers spectacular scenery whether you are a snowboarder, skier, climber or hiker. The quaint little village itself is delightful; the wooden and stone houses are particularly characteristic and very Germanic in style. The people of this area are Walsers - a people of Germanic origin who moved here centuries ago and the language spoken is still a medieval German. For a taste of genuine Alagna cooking visit the Fum Diss restaurant in the nearby village of Dosso. A tiny little place where you basically get to eat whatever they have on the day you choose to visit - you can rest assured that it is invariably good.
