Piedmont cooking is, in my experience, the finest of all Italian cooking, and with Italian cooking being as good as it is, that is really saying something. For the people of Piedmont eating is one of the great pleasures of life. It is something that is taken extremely seriously. Piedmont is home to many of the top quality products essential to achieving authentic Italian dishes.
Without 100% genuine
authentic Italian ingredients
the results will disappoint. Piedmont’s local produce ranges from the best rice in Europe, through to fantastic mushrooms and the huge variety of mushroom recipes in Piedmont bears testimony to this. Asparagus is another key ingredient and the local asparagus is the pride of Italy. Some of the other world class products include the famous truffle from Alba and the renowned hazelnuts. This is a land of pure eating pleasure and an absolute paradise for gastronomes and connoisseurs of fine wines. Piedmont wine is amongst the best of Italian wines and the varieties of Italian wine grapes found on the Langhe Piedmont wine route are exceptional. Details on the wines and spirits can be found
here.
Piedmont cooking includes some of the most complex Italian recipes, requiring time and precision to make perfectly - an example is the bollito misto. On the other hand it contains some other fairly simple but extremely delicious recipes. For example the best Italian chicken recipe, chicken Marengo, comes from Piedmont and it is very easy to make. One last thing before we get to the recipes; Have you ever wanted to cook like an Italian? If you have then I have put together a list of great cooking holidays - the list is here - just select the one you like in your favourite region of Italy - and Order a FREE Travel Brochure!
