Sauze d’Oulx
Sauze d’Oulx has been one of the most popular resorts with British tourists for decades and with good reason; great skiing, fabulous nightlife and great scenery are to be had in what remains a thoroughly pleasant little Piedmont town. Where to Stay Personally if you want good value and decent accommodation I can really recommend
The Hotel Gran Bosco.
More central and recommended by a friend of mine, although I have never stayed here, is the
Hotel Hermitage
. About Sauze Sauze is part of the famous Via Lattea ( Milky Way in English) and has more than 400kms of great skiing, 95 ski-lifts and 75kms of artificial slopes. The town is known as cradle of Italian skiing and as the “balcone delle Alpi” - the balcony/gateway to the Alps. It is a very well justified title. The town is right in the middle of the Milky Way with easy access to all the nearby resorts,
Sestriere
can even be reached by means of the spectacular new chairlift. For children this resort is one of the best and the child facilities are excellent, with nearly all of them having English speaking staff. Generally I would rate the resort as ideal for intermediate and beginner level skiers however advanced skiers can easily access the great black runs of
Sestriere.
Sestriere has the better advanced slopes but Sauze d’Oulx is the more characteristic resort. For those not into skiing there are great hikes and some good ice climbing routes up a frozen waterfall. If you aren’t that energetic then there is a decent natural ice rink, some good restaurants and a charming weekly market. If you prefer more nocturnal activities then the après-ski scene is hectic. Countless pubs and a couple of good clubs will keep you going until dawn. For more ski holiday Italy options please also visit:
