Bike Tour Italy

For the perfect bike tour Italy is ideal. Italy is surely one of the most beautiful countries on earth in which to cycle.

Piedmont, my home region, is the finest cycling region of Italy. In Piedmont you will find something for every cyclist. The terrain includes the flat country to the east of Piedmont, the mountains of the Alps to the west and the gentle rolling countryside of the Langhe wine country to the south. Piedmont is truly a cycling paradise.

My personal preference is the wine country of the Langhe. Cycling through the gorgeous hill towns and magnificent scenery of this region makes one appreciate just how wonderful life can be. My biggest difficulty is getting going again after lunch, the food here is just so superb and the wine exceptional that doing anything much after lunch becomes a real trial.

If you would like to experience cycling in Piedmont there are two ways of going about it:

1) Do it yourself – if you are a seasoned Italy hand and don’t have problems with the language this is ideal. Italy by Bike: 105 Tours from the Alps to Sicily is worthwhile reading before you go. It has a whole lot of do it yourself itineraries ranging from beginner up to advanced and lots of other essential information accompanied by lovely photos of the routes.

2) Organised cycling tour - Piedmont has a couple of superb organized tours. In my opinion the best of these is the Pedal Piedmont bike tour Italy.

They do a marvelous 8 day trip through the southern Piedmont wine country.

The tour combines breathtakingly beautiful scenery with a gourmet eating and drinking experience. It visits many really traditional little restaurants and vineyards that you would never discover otherwise and the tour is extremely well run.
