We went to Le Marche in Italy for the first time three years ago and stayed at Villa San Raffaello following a personal recommendation.
The Villa is situated in a perfect location just outside the old medieval town of Sarnano. We are close enough to the mountains for spectacular walks and close enough to the coast for a day out at the beach or water park. Or we'd spend lazy days using the villas facilities like the enormous outdoor swimming pool, barbecue and pizza oven, or wander around the garden and pick our own veg for free in the allotments, to be eaten later.
Sarnano town has plenty to offer culturally and activity wise - there always seems to be some sort of festival going on in town, although they often go on quite late. We have now stayed at Villa San Raffaello three times, each time in a different apartment which are all well furnished to a very good standard and well equipped too.
One of the best bits about the Villa and why we keep going back are the English owners and how they bend over backwards to ensure you get the most out of your holiday. Fluent in Italian, they will arrange and investigate activities for you and often accompanied us on trips to show us the way! Can't recommend the place highly enough and we do all the time. You can get loads of information on Le Marche at their extremely informative site http://www.villasanraffaello.com . Many of our friends who've been there are now recommending Villa San Raffaello too!
