Piedmont Italy Restaurant Review

In my opinion it is worth making the trip just to eat here plus they also have rooms where you can spend the night. Little is better than a great meal and a night in one of Italy's loveliest towns.

The rooms aren’t the most luxurious but they are very big and very clean. Probably a better choice is to stay at the superb Villa Lauri.

La Contea is located in a centuries old house in the heart of this historic little village near the medieval church. The restaurant, with it's frescoed ceilings and old fireplaces, really takes one back to the Piedmont of yesteryear.

I cannot rave enough about the food here. It is traditional Piedmont cooking at it’s finest. Tonino and Claudia, the husband and wife owners, really have produced a restaurant that is a true celebration of centuries of Piedmont cuisine.

The ingredients used are always fresh and the recipes are always seasonal with all the ingredients sourced locally and all organic. Eating here it is clear why the Slow Food movement started in Piedmont.

Many of the herbs, mushrooms etc are gathered personally in the hills nearby by Tonino and Claudia. More than simply Italian food these dishes are labours of love. Don’t miss their Quail in Rosemary and their Risotto al Barbaresco. The traditional Fonduta di Langa is also out of this world.

Tonino and Claudia have there own vineyard where they produce some really fine Piedmont wines like Barbera, Barbaresco and Dolcetto. Great quality wines that the couple only sell locally, I would advise buying a few bottles to take home with you.

If you have the time and enjoy wine then visit the nearby and superb Cascina Saria winery.
