Italian Ice Wine of Rare Distinction

Casa Ronsil

Rare Wine & Fine Italian Ice Wine from Chiomonte

Refounded in 2002

Viticulture is an ancestral tradition for the Ronsil family, this is confirmed by a document from 1346 in which a certain Petrus Roncilli (latin version of the Ronsil name) elaborates on his wines. The Val di Susa and more especially Chiomonte, have long been renowned for quality wines, once being primary suppliers of wine to the Roman Empire.

In 2002 the family saved the vines of their grandfather "Camillo" by buying the "Rocce del Bau" vineyards, birthplace of the celebrated "Fortunato" wine.

Their intention was twofold:

1) To conserve these ancient varieties, namely the Avana and the Becouet which offer extremely rare wines.

2) To preserve the environment of Chiomonte by working the land in the traditional ways of yesteryear despite the difficulties and responsibilities that this entails.

The limited production is dedicated to those who love wine but above all to those who understand wine.

To date these excellent wines have never been sold in the UK or USA and represent a glorious opportunity for any wine merchant interested in stocking unique wines of distinction.

Our Wines

Nadine from Casa Ronsil explains that the diverse names of the red wines Valsusa D.O.C. derives from the fact that harvest and vinification occurs separately for each section of their vines, which are to be found in geographically very different and very distinct areas of Chiomonte.

"This is done in order to respect the land and traditions of our ancestors who through the centuries discovered the terroir of excellence for each vine.

Apart from the Avanà all our high tannin reds spend 12 months in used barrique purchased in France."

* With Chiomonte being at an altitude of over 750 metres, the beginning of the harvest is very rarely before the first week of October."
