Italian Ice Wine from Chiomonte

Casa Ronsil (view article here) produces an absolutely exquisite and entirely unique Italian Ice Wine. For centuries they have been producing a wine which, while undiscovered by the outside world, is a very special wine from a unique Italian wine region.

Casa Ronsil's wines (for details of their wines click here) have begun to earn Chiomonte, the town where they originate, a distinguished reputation in Italian wine circles. No doubt in the future these wines will become very sought after. ice wine The wine produced here is a wine not found elsewhere in Piedmont. It is an Italian wine of completely unique distinction.

By leaving the grape on the vines until late winter a good part of the grape is lost but the remainder is highly concentrated, transforming the wine into a wine of incredible density, of intense colour with a strong nose.

Chiomonte, a lovely town in the famous Val di Susa, is one of the few places in Piedmont and indeed the world where wines of this type are possible and where such a late harvest can be gathered.

The vineyards of Chiomonte are found at over 1000 meters and the harvesting of wines at this altitude, in the freezing temperatures of Piedmont during January, is no easy matter.

The result though is well worth the trouble and a bottle of this ice wine is certainly a good investment.
