Piedmont’s famous Ice Wine of Chiomonte
An absolutely exquisite and entirely unique Italian Wine from a wine region of Italy that is very special. This wine has begun to earn Chiomonte a distinguished reputation in wine circles. No doubt in the very near future these wines will become very sought after.
The wine produced here is a wine not found elsewhere in Piedmont. It is an Italian wine of completely unique distinction. By leaving the grape on the vines until late winter a good part of the grape is lost but the remainder is highly concentrated, transforming the wine into a wine of incredible density, of intense colour with a strong nose. Chiomonte, a lovely town in the famous
Val di Susa,
is one of the few places in Piedmont and indeed the world where wines of this type are possible and where such a late harvest can be gathered. The vineyards of Chiomonte are found at over 1000 meters and the harvesting of wines at this altitude, in the freezing temperatures of Piedmont during January, is no easy matter and requires a completely different methodology. The result though is well worth the trouble and a bottle of this ice wine is no doubt a good investment. For more on Piedmont's wine visit our
